Consulting approach
TELLIN GRANT follows a unique approach that enables your company to determine requirements for product information management (PIM) in the context of ‘market’ and ‘data management’. By comparing these perspectives, existing and future capabilities can be evaluated systematically to derive strategies and programs, requirements on IT infrastructure and required software as well as necessary processes and organization.
Therefore, our consulting is based on a standardized principle. This principle focusses on the vision and market goal of our customers. Based on these targets, it is possible to derive specific requirements and tasks for product information management (PIM) and data management (PDM) as well as for the organization and infrastructure (delivery) – along predefined concepts, best practices, standardized benchmarks and more. In a nutshell, it is all about professional operation of the product information management (PIM) and product data management (PDM) in the context of market activities, because digital business models live from creativity and attraction and from the adaptation of relevant market conditions. This results in a mutual relationship between continuity and business model.
Consulting
In the course of digitization, eCommerce and digital business platforms (B2B/B2C) are getting more and more important. In order to position products and services successfully on digital markets, professional product information and data is required. To make this available, it also requires a suitable data management infrastructure, high-performance IT, suitable processes, a suitable organizational structure, well-trained employees, professional digital customer management, analytical skills, advanced business models and the use of AI to support business capabilities.
In short, we are talking about nothing less than a digitization of traditional product and service businesses. Many companies have already identified a substantial need for action, as existing deficits recently became very clear during the coronavirus pandemic. For this reason, companies are increasingly under pressure to maintain and defend their position in a competitive international environment – especially with regard to expected market sizes and corresponding sales expectations of digital markets.
Relevance of product information management (PIM)
Against this background, product information management (PIM) and corresponding product data management (PDM) are of paramount importance, as they have a tangible impact on a company’s business development. As a company, you know these challenges very well! Read more about what challenges other companies have experienced and how they managed them.
Compensating Sales Losses by improving Data Quality
A German retail company lost several million euro in sales in 2020 due inadequate data quality. The loss of sales was evident in a disproportionately high return rate (55%) and corresponding follow-up costs.
When analysing the data, the company discovered that published item data did not correlate with the actual quality of the items delivered.
The retail company invested in automated data quality checks according to defined quality criteria along regular product quality checks and corresponding quality gates. As a result, the return rate decreased by 5%, while average order value increased by 2%.
As a result, the company was able to achieve a plus of 300 million euro in 2021.
Safeguarding Business Operations during Covid Pandemic
The primary sales channel of a German wholesale company was previously organized by in-house fairs. At that time, the online offering only represented a few tens of thousands of items from the entire product assortment. In the course of the Covid pandemic, it was no longer possible to organize in-house fairs. The online offering was unable to mitigate a significant collapse in sales. As a result, the company faced a critical business situation.
The wholesale company invested in a dedicated PIM software system specialising in retail. The implementation focussed on ‘data onboarding’ and an increasing degree of automation in supplier management.
Since then, manually created data catalogues can be uploaded by the suppliers to the assortment online. An AI-supported process now handles incoming data and the listing process almost automatically (approx. 80% automation). As a result, the online product assortment could be expanded to over two million items within just a few months, ensuring the company’s business operations and preserving jobs.
Increase Sales through Innovative CXM Concepts
The publication of its annual print catalogue has cost an international manufacturing company several million euro a year. In addition to the production costs, further costs for translation, localization, printing and mailing came to millions of euro. Along with increased production costs due to the pandemic, the print catalogue became increasingly unattractive from an economic perspective and appeared no longer relevant. The innovation leader decided to discontinue the print catalogue and announce innovative concepts.
The company invested in expanding its online assortment, in AI-supported offer personalization, in a live stock connection and in corresponding IT integration. This enabled the company to establish a click & collect concept that generates an estimated 38% of sales (equivalent to several billion euros) at its peak.
Customers can order available items (live availability) online and collect the prepared goods contact-free from the manufacturer’s stores on a scheduled date. Upon collection of the items, customers receive a personalized and completely automated print product with individual item recommendations, which incentivizes subsequent purchases.
In order to successfully participate and survive in the digital market, companies (B2C/B2B) need professional product information and data management.
TELLIN GRANT is committed to support companies with planning, setup and implementation of digital product information management and to help them realize digital added value. TELLIN GRANT operates as an independent consulting and planning company (trusted advisor).
